A GLP-1 medication changes the single most important variable in your diet: how much you want to eat. When appetite drops sharply, the goal is no longer "eat less" — it's making the smaller amount you do eat work harder. Every plate has to carry more protein, more fibre and more nutrition per bite. That is the problem Preptide is built to solve.
What counts as a GLP-1 meal?
A GLP-1 meal (also written GLP1 meals or "GLP-1 friendly meals") is a meal designed around medication-suppressed appetite: a smaller portion that still reaches clinical protein targets. At Preptide, four rules define one:
- Protein first: 20-50 g of protein per meal, even at small portion sizes — because lean mass is the first casualty of under-eating protein during rapid weight loss.
- Portion-matched calories by phase: roughly 250-350 calories while appetite is fully suppressed, 300-450 as appetite returns coming off the medication, and 450-600 for everyday maintenance.
- Lower fat, gently prepared: grilled, poached and braised rather than fried, so meals sit comfortably with slowed gastric emptying.
- Fibre from real vegetables: volume and fullness without the heaviness that commonly triggers nausea.
Every Preptide meal shows its calories and protein before you order, and the menu is organised into ON, TRANSITIONING and MAINTENANCE phases so portions track your appetite — not the other way round.
Why GLP-1 meals are different from normal meal delivery
Mainstream meal delivery is designed around a normal appetite and a full-size plate. On a GLP-1, that model quietly works against you. Drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide slow gastric emptying and blunt hunger signals, so you fill up fast and stay full for hours. A standard 700-calorie tray that is half carbohydrate suddenly feels like too much food — and the part you finish is rarely the part with the protein.
Preptide flips the priority. Because appetite is smaller, every bite has to be nutrient-dense and protein-forward. Core meals start with a meaningful protein source, build volume from vegetables and fibre, and keep fat moderate so the meal is easier to tolerate. Snacks and drinks are shown separately with macros, so they can be planned around the core meal rather than mistaken for one.
The short version: normal meal delivery optimises for a big, satisfying plate. Preptide optimises for protein and fibre per bite, because on a GLP-1 the number of bites is the thing that shrinks.
The muscle-loss problem nobody warns you about
Here is the part of GLP-1 weight loss that often goes under-discussed. Clinical trials and reviews show that lean mass can be a meaningful part of total weight lost during GLP-1-assisted weight loss. Losing weight may be the goal; losing avoidable strength and function is not. Lean mass supports metabolism, strength and body composition — and it is easier to prioritise while losing weight than to rebuild later.
Put plainly, there are two versions of losing weight on a GLP-1. In one, a meaningful share of every kilo lost is muscle: the scale falls, but you land feeling flat and weaker than you expected. In the other, enough protein — paired with resistance training — protects the lean mass, and what leaves is mostly fat: smaller, but strong. The difference is rarely willpower. It is whether enough protein arrives on a plate small enough to finish.
Age raises the stakes. Fat loss works at any age, but rebuilding lost muscle gets harder every year: the body's anabolic response to food and training declines from the 30s onward, and gradually falling hormone levels — including testosterone — slow the rebuild further. Muscle kept during the medication window is muscle you never have to win back.
The nutrition strategy is simple in principle and hard in practice: eat enough protein, every day, even when you barely feel like eating, and pair it with resistance training where appropriate. That is exactly when adequate protein is most difficult, because appetite is at its lowest. Preptide builds core meals around protein, with a working target of 1.2-1.6 g of protein per kilogram of body weight per day to discuss with your clinician during meaningful weight loss.

How much protein do you need on a GLP-1?
A reasonable floor for most adults losing weight on a GLP-1 is at least 60 g of protein per day, with many people doing better toward the higher 1.2-1.6 g/kg range. Spread that across the day rather than chasing it in one sitting: aiming for 20-40 g of protein per meal makes the daily total achievable and gives your muscles a steady supply of amino acids.
The catch is reduced appetite. When you can only manage a small plate, getting 30 g of protein into it requires deliberate design — a generous portion of lean meat, fish or a plant-protein base, not a side of it. That is the reason Preptide leads with protein and trims the filler in core meals, while keeping snacks and drinks clearly separated as add-ons.

The three Preptide phases
Your nutrition needs change depending on where you are in your journey. Appetite, tolerance and calorie needs all shift as you start, settle on, or step away from a medication. Preptide organises the menu into three phases so the food matches the moment.
On the medication
Protein-forward and gentle on the stomach. Core meals are lower in fat for easier tolerance and sized for a suppressed appetite; snacks and drinks sit separately as add-ons.

Meals for Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro
Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide), Saxenda (liraglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) all work in a similar way at the dinner table: they slow gastric emptying and reduce appetite, so food sits longer and you feel full sooner. Mounjaro adds GIP activity on top of GLP-1, but the practical eating advice is the same. Preptide menus suit every GLP-1 and tirzepatide.
Because the stomach empties slowly, what you eat strongly affects how you feel. Easier-to-tolerate choices tend to be lean protein, cooked vegetables and lower-fat meals — exactly how Preptide is formulated. What commonly makes nausea worse are fatty, fried, ultra-processed and high-sugar foods, which sit heavily and linger. Building your plates around the first list and away from the second is one of the simplest ways to make the medication more comfortable.
The evidence we use
Preptide is food, not medical treatment. The GLP-1 meal framework here is informed by clinical trials and nutrition reviews, including:
- Wilding et al., 2021, New England Journal of Medicine - semaglutide in adults with overweight or obesity.
- Jastreboff et al., 2022, New England Journal of Medicine - tirzepatide once weekly for obesity.
- Wilding et al., 2022, Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism - weight regain and cardiometabolic effects after semaglutide withdrawal.
- Wharton et al., 2022, Postgraduate Medicine - managing gastrointestinal side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists.

GLP-1 meals, answered
What are GLP-1 meals?
GLP-1 meals are meals designed for the reduced appetite that comes with GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro: smaller portions that still deliver 20-50 g of protein, kept lower in fat so they sit comfortably with slowed digestion, with fibre from vegetables for fullness. When you can only eat a little, every bite has to count — that's the whole idea.
What are the best meals to eat on a GLP-1?
Lean-protein-first plates in small portions: grilled or poached chicken and fish, eggs, tofu, cooked vegetables, and modest amounts of slower carbohydrates. On Preptide's menu, ON-phase picks like the Light Teriyaki Poke (184 cal, 30 g protein) or the Cheese & Vegetable Omelette (206 cal, 26 g protein) are typical examples. Fried, fatty and very sweet foods commonly make nausea worse and are best avoided.
How many calories should a GLP-1 meal be?
It depends where you are in the journey. Preptide sizes core meals at roughly 250-350 calories while appetite is fully suppressed (ON), 300-450 as appetite returns (TRANSITIONING), and 450-600 for everyday maintenance — always with protein prioritised first. Your clinician or dietitian can set personal targets.
Are Preptide meals suitable for Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Yes. Our menus are designed for people taking any GLP-1 receptor agonist — including semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy), liraglutide (Saxenda) — and the GLP-1/GIP medication tirzepatide (Mounjaro). Meals are protein-forward, lower in fat and portion-aligned for a reduced appetite. Preptide is food, not medication, and never replaces your prescription.
How much protein is in each meal?
It depends on the phase and item. Core meals are selected around phase-specific protein targets, while snacks and drinks are shown separately with macros. Many people aim for 20-40 g of protein per main meal and at least 60 g per day, but your healthcare provider can set the right target for you.
Do I need a prescription?
No. Preptide is a food service, not a pharmacy. You don't need a prescription, and we don't supply or prescribe any medication. Many customers are on a GLP-1 prescribed by their own doctor; others are tapering off or simply eating this way for general health.
Can I use this after bariatric surgery?
Many post-bariatric customers find the smaller portions and high protein density of our ON-phase meals helpful. Because surgical recovery has staged texture and volume requirements, please review the plan with your bariatric surgeon or accredited dietitian before ordering.
Is it fresh or frozen?
Fresh, never frozen. Meals are cooked and chilled, then delivered weekly so they arrive ready to refrigerate and reheat. This keeps texture and flavour closer to home cooking — which matters when appetite and tolerance are reduced.
How is this different from normal meal delivery?
Mainstream services are built for a normal appetite and a full-size plate. Preptide is built for a suppressed appetite, so core meals are selected for protein density, fibre and tolerability in a smaller serving — and the menu is organised into phases that match where you are on or off your medication.
Can I pause or skip?
Yes. Skip a week, pause your subscription or change phase any time before your weekly cut-off. There are no lock-in contracts. The delivery fee (if any) and any free-delivery threshold are shown at checkout before you pay.
What areas do you deliver to?
We currently deliver fresh weekly across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane metro areas. Enter your postcode at checkout to confirm your suburb is in our delivery zone.
